Elaine Chaplin

Hello….and welcome to my narrative on how I began as a Nia teacher in Cardiff.

My background is in occupational therapy based health care and as a registered drama and movement therapist (central school of speech and drama, London). I have acquired many skills as a health practitioner including mindfulness meditation for stress reduction and a deep interest in sensory integration work, which blends well with the magic of Nia.

Five years ago my passion was gym work and yoga practise, but in 2003 I was involved in a traffic accident which lead to damage in my upper spine. I felt low, unmotivated and reluctant to engage in any movement form, I gained weight. Then in 2004, I found Fiona Winter a Nia Teacher in Ystrad Mynach..fell in love with the sensations and commenced my white belt training with Helen Terry (USA) later that year.

My first class was in Trinant supported by community dance Wales and as my skills and knowledge grew, my classes increased to the Cardiff area, where I live.

Presently I apply Nia in my place of work and have two regular classes in the following areas Rumney Community Centre Mons 6.30-7.30p.m Butetown Community Centre (ladies only) Weds 6.30-7.30p.m

I am now preparing to take my blue belt at Easter 08 with Helen and am so excited to be part of the Nia community and the inspirational support of Sam through her website. At the age of 49 my journey as a Nia teacher has given me a new body..my body’s way.

I look forward to meeting you at a Nia Class or at the White Belt training

Hugs
